Gombe Floods: Police Confirm Four Drownings, Issue Safety Warning
At least four people drowned in flood waters after the heavy rains started in Gombe State

At least four people drowned in floodwaters after heavy rains started in Gombe State.
DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the Gombe State Police, confirmed these deaths in a statement on Tuesday.
He explained that the police received reports of four separate drownings in Hayin kwarin-Misau, Bojude, Bajoga, and Difa communities, located in Akko, Kwami, Funakaye, and Yamaltu Deba local government areas.
The victims were mostly children and teenagers who drowned in rivers, erosion sites, or open water channels.
"The Gombe State Police want to warn the public to stay alert and be careful around water bodies," he said.
He added that the rainy season increases the risk of accidents in water and urged everyone to stay cautious.
He advised residents to follow safety rules to avoid losing lives.
"Never swim in open or unsafe water bodies. Rivers and erosion channels can be dangerous, especially during heavy rain when currents can change quickly."
"Keep a close eye on children at all times. Parents, guardians, and school staff should watch children carefully and keep them indoors during rain or when they are near water."
"Stay away from flooded areas. Do not walk, drive, or swim through floodwaters, as the depth and strength can be deceptive."
Abdullahi also asked residents to report any dangerous erosion or uncovered drainage channels to authorities.
He reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
