Nana Osei Bonsu, popularly known as Original Hoahi, was born and raised in Boadi, Kumasi in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. He is widely recognized as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's official palm wine tapper, a position he held with loyalty and pride for over 17 years while closely following the traditions of the Ashanti royal court.
Rise to Fame and Controversy
Hoahi became a household name through his work as a TV personality and social media commentator. Known for his bold commentary, he established an online community under the banner of Hoahi Reigns Kingdom, where he claimed to “defend the truth.” His outspoken nature earned him both a loyal following and strong opposition.
Later, Hoahi stirred controversy when he began conducting TikTok “prayer sessions,” some of which involved women engaging in questionable behavior under the guise of spiritual cleansing.
Journey Through Occultism
In his earlier years, Hoahi openly practiced occultism and fetishism. He even denied the existence of God and claimed there was no such thing as heaven. Empowered by charms and rituals, he believed no force on earth could challenge him.
However, his perspective changed drastically in November 2016 when he traveled to Benin to visit a fetish priest. On his return to Ghana, he got caught in a violent clash at Nima in Accra. Despite having spiritual charms for protection, he was stabbed and beaten, leaving him seriously injured.
He woke up at Ridge Hospital, where a mysterious woman approached him with a message from God: “He doesn’t want you to die in your sins. He wants you to change.”
Spiritual Awakening and Ministry
Deeply moved, Hoahi returned to Kumasi and made a vow to God: if his life was spared, he would serve Him forever. Honoring that promise, he turned away from fetishism and embraced Christianity.
Now a gospel musician and preacher, Hoahi uses his personal testimony to inspire others. On December 17, 2017, he launched his first gospel album, titled “Nyame Gya,” at Cornerstone Bible Church International near the Tech Police Station, Ayigya.
