OSP Blocks Koranteng’s Flight Over Corruption Investigation
Former MIIF Boss, Nana Yaw Koranteng

Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), was on the night of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, stopped by immigration officers at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) while attempting to board an international flight.

Sources at the airport confirmed that Mr Koranteng was intercepted after it was discovered that he was on a travel watch list, commonly referred to as a “stop list,” issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which is currently investigating him.

According to immigration officials, Mr Koranteng attempted to leave the country without obtaining prior clearance from the OSP—a violation of the conditions of his enquiry bail. His departure attempt triggered an alert at the airport, prompting immediate action from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), which subsequently notified the OSP.

He was taken into custody for further questioning and possible legal action, in line with the restrictions placed on his movement as part of the ongoing probe.

While details of the investigation remain undisclosed, Mr Koranteng’s placement on enquiry bail strongly suggests the case involves substantial allegations of corruption or related offences under the mandate of the OSP.

His name first surfaced publicly in February 2025, when the Special Prosecutor launched a high-profile investigation into suspected financial misconduct involving several former top government officials. At the time, Mr Koranteng was declared wanted alongside former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The trio is believed to be at the centre of a broader corruption probe into the management of public resources during their tenure in office.

The OSP has not yet issued a formal update on Mr Koranteng’s attempted departure or the next steps in the investigation, but legal analysts say breaching travel restrictions imposed by the OSP could carry serious legal consequences.

This latest development adds to growing public concern over accountability and enforcement in the fight against corruption in Ghana. Civil society organisations have repeatedly called for increased transparency and timely prosecution of high-profile cases under the jurisdiction of the Special Prosecutor.

As of the time of filing this report, Mr Koranteng remained in the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
