The New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Constituency, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah has sparked controversy with a Facebook post he made about the party electing the right person to lead the party in to victory in the 2028 general elections.

In a Facebook post on Thursday 19th June 2025, the Okaikwei Central lawmaker indicated that, the party needs to be well organised and disciplined to produce a President and not just flagbearer.

His post has sparked controversy among some NPP members, especially on social media. This is because, it is rumoured that, the Okaikwei Central lawmaker is one of the few members of Parliament who don't support the candidature of former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In confirmed reports indicate that, he and other Members of Parliament belong to the camp of Kenedy Agyapong and not Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Since he made the post on his Facebook page, some party supporters who supports Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party in to the 2028 general elections have raised questions on the motive for making such a post.

Those questioning his motive are of the view that, if he believe in the candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he wouldn't have made such a post. But others believed that, he only made the post in the interest of party unity and the need to reorganise for victory 2028.
